Why ChessNavio updates the recommended move
When the recommendation should change, why a move that is already shown stays stable, and how to recognise a stuck position.
The position is confirmed first
After your opponent’s move ChessNavio removes the old arrow and checks where the pieces stand and whose turn it is. The hint appears only once the new position is confirmed, so quick moves should never leave advice from the previous one on the board.
The move you see is fixed
The calculation runs locally and takes your level, the time control and tactical safety into account. Once a recommendation is on screen, ChessNavio does not replace it with another move for the same position. That lets you decide calmly instead of watching a flickering arrow.
Why the first move is sometimes stronger
In some positions a quick line comes from a reply prepared in advance for the continuation your opponent was likely to choose. If your opponent played something else, that preparation no longer matches the real position. ChessNavio has to re-read the board and start a new calculation rather than carry a strong move into a different position.
What should happen to the arrow
When the position changes, the old arrow disappears at once. A new line appears only after the current board is confirmed. If you picked an extra move by hand, that move becomes the main arrow. Two hints in a row before your opponent has moved is a state error.
When an update is normal
The recommendation changes after a new move on the board, after you choose a different line, or after you change the level. Simply waiting for a deeper calculation must not silently replace an answer you have already been shown.
When to open diagnostics
If the «preparing» line does not change for several seconds, if the arrow belongs to a move that has passed, or if pausing and resuming does not help, this is no longer ordinary refinement. Reload the page and save the short diagnostic report. It helps find the cause without sending your position or your full game history.
